The Executive Chairman of the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Grace Adagba, on Monday joined other stakeholders at the national flag-off of the distribution of two million packs of sanitary towels and back-to-school materials to girls in public basic education schools across Nigeria.

The initiative, organised by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education, was part of activities marking the 2026 International Day of the Girl Child.

The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who attended the event as Special Guest of Honour, performed the flag-off, signalling the commencement of the nationwide distribution aimed at supporting schoolgirls and improving their access to education.

The intervention is designed to promote menstrual hygiene, protect the dignity and confidence of girls, and reduce challenges associated with menstruation that could hinder school attendance and participation.

According to a statement by Msughter John Ataigbough, Special Assistant to the Benue SUBEB Chairman on Corporate Communications and Community Engagements, Adagba's participation underscored the board's commitment to inclusive education and the welfare of learners, particularly girls.

Other dignitaries at the event included the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa; Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Said Ahmad; UBEC Executive Secretary, Dr. Aisha Garba; Chairman of the UBEC Governing Board, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura; and Education Lead at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Ian Attfield.

Representatives of education agencies and other stakeholders also attended the event, reaffirming their commitment to advancing girls' education and creating a more supportive learning environment for schoolgirls across the country.
