Ex Gov Ortom dismisses 2027 Senate bid rumours, reaffirms no interest in elective office

The immediate past Governor of Benue State, Chief Samuel Ortom, has debunked widespread rumours suggesting he plans to contest the Benue North-West Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections, describing the claim as false and misleading.

In a statement issued by his Media Adviser/Consultant, Dr. Terver Akase, Ortom distanced himself from the report circulating on social media, insisting that he has no intention of returning to elective politics.

“Our attention has been drawn to yet another imaginative piece of fiction making the rounds on social media,” Akase said.

“Ordinarily, such a poorly scripted tale would not deserve a response, but it has become necessary to set the record straight for unsuspecting members of the public,” he added.

He emphasized that the former governor has repeatedly made his position clear. “Chief Ortom has no intention whatsoever to contest any elective office in 2027.
He has said this clearly, publicly, and repeatedly,” the statement added.

Akase further noted that Ortom remains focused on contributing to democratic development and strengthening his political party rather than seeking public office.

“He remains committed to supporting democratic ideals, strengthening his party, and offering statesmanlike guidance, not chasing elective office in 2027,” he said.

The former governor also expressed appreciation to supporters and associates who reached out following the circulation of the report.

According to the statement, Ortom is grateful for the concern shown by his friends, supporters, and party members.

The public was urged to disregard the report, which the statement described as a fabrication, and rely only on verified information regarding the former governor’s political stance.
