2027: Peter Obi dumps Labour Party, joins ADC to ‘Rescue Nigeria’

Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, Mr. Peter Obi, has officially defected to the coalition-backed African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Obi announced his decision on Wednesday, December 31, during a political gathering in Enugu.

The former Anambra State governor said his move to the ADC ahead of the 2027 general election was driven by the need to transform and rescue Nigeria from its current challenges.

Expressing optimism about the future, Obi declared that the new political coalition would begin a “rescue journey” in 2026.

He further pledged that the coalition would resist any form of electoral malpractice in the 2027 polls through lawful means, stressing the importance of credible and transparent elections in strengthening democracy.

Obi also called on opposition leaders across the country to unite as one family under the leadership of former Senate President and ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark, to reposition the nation for progress.

Dignitaries at the event included Senator David Mark; former Sokoto State Governor, Senator Aminu Tambuwal; former governors from the South-East; former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha; Senators Ben Obi, Victor Umeh, Tony Nwoye, Gilbert Nnaji, Enyinnya Abaribe, and Sam Egwu, as well as Chief Onyema Ugochukwu and several other members of the National Assembly.
