Benue Intensifies Health Reforms as Commissioner Donates 3,000 Mosquito Nets, Inspects NYSC Camp

In a strong demonstration of the Benue State Government’s renewed commitment to public health and youth welfare, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Paul Ejeh Ogwuche, has undertaken an assessment visit to the NYSC Orientation Camp in Wannune, Tarka Local Government Area.

The visit, officials say, aligns with Governor Hyacinth Alia’s broader agenda to reposition the health sector and strengthen preventive healthcare services across the state.

During the tour, Dr. Ogwuche inspected the camp clinic, examined available facilities, and reviewed the overall environment to ensure compliance with state public health standards.

He said the government places high priority on the wellbeing of young Nigerians serving the nation.

“The health of Corps Members is a priority for this administration. These young people are contributing to national development, and it is our duty to ensure they serve in a safe and healthy environment,” the Commissioner stated.

Earlier, Dr. Ogwuche facilitated the donation of 3,000 long-lasting insecticide-treated mosquito nets and essential drugs to the NYSC Secretariat; a gesture he described as part of a sustained strategy to reduce malaria prevalence and improve community health outcomes.

“We are investing in interventions that directly touch the lives of our people. Malaria remains a major public health challenge, and this donation is one of many steps we are taking to safeguard our communities,” he added.

The Commissioner also conveyed a goodwill message from the Executive Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, who reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of Corps Members.

“This government will continue to prioritize programmes that promote good health, safety, and a conducive atmosphere for service,” the Governor assured.

Dr. Ogwuche further pledged continued collaboration between the Ministry and the NYSC to ensure that all orientation camps in Benue State remain adequately equipped with essential medical supplies.

Responding, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Veronica Garba, expressed profound appreciation for the visit and the support extended to the camp. She was accompanied by the Camp Clinic Consultant, Dr. Ona Ijih, and the Head of the Camp Clinic, Mrs. Aluka Nancy.

“This intervention reflects responsible governance. These supplies will significantly improve healthcare delivery within the camp,” Mrs. Garba said.

She appealed for additional government support, particularly more medical equipment and basic clinical supplies, to further strengthen the camp clinic’s capacity.

“Enhanced support will reinforce the safety of Corps Members and improve the overall success of the orientation programme,” she noted.

She also assured that the NYSC Benue Secretariat remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of health and welfare throughout the service year.

The Commissioner’s visit is widely seen as a reaffirmation of the Alia administration’s focus on preventive healthcare and youth development across Benue State.
