FG begins payment of outstanding allowances to Nigerian students on BEA scholarship

The Federal Government has commenced the disbursement of outstanding 2025 allowances to Nigerian students studying abroad under the Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) Scholarship Programme.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Relations in the Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs. Boriowo Folasade, who said the approved funds had already been remitted to Nigerian Embassies and Missions for onward payment to beneficiaries.

According to the statement, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) successfully transferred the funds to the affected embassies, which are expected to begin immediate disbursement to eligible scholars in partner countries.

Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, revealed that the released amount represents 50 per cent of the approved outstanding obligations for 2025, while arrangements were ongoing to release the balance.

He explained that beneficiaries should begin monitoring their accounts as payments were expected to reflect soon.

Dr. Alausa said the payment demonstrates President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to the welfare and academic success of Nigerian students abroad under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Minister commended the affected scholars for their patience and resilience, assuring them that the Federal Government remained committed to ensuring that no Nigerian student under government scholarship schemes is neglected.

The Ministry also reaffirmed its determination to meet all legitimate obligations to Nigerian scholars and sustain policies aimed at improving access to quality education and advancing national development through investment in human capital.

The BEA Scholarship Programme, which has now been terminated, had supported Nigerian students pursuing studies in partner countries across different fields of learning.
