Shock and mourning in Kano as gunmen kill housewife, six children

Tragedy enveloped Dorayi Charanchi Quarters in the ancient city of Kano following the brutal killing of a housewife, Fatima Abubakar, and her six children by yet-to-be-identified hoodlums.

The assailants reportedly stormed the residence of Haruna Bashir, where they carried out the deadly attack on members of the household, leaving the community in shock and grief.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Kano State Police Command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, said the victims were attacked with dangerous weapons, resulting in fatal injuries.

According to him, the police received a distress call at about 12:10 p.m. on January 17, 2025, alerting them to the violent assault at Dorayi Charanchi Quarters.

“The victims, Fatima Abubakar, aged 35, and her six children were attacked by unknown hoodlums who broke into their residence and inflicted fatal injuries on them,” CSP Haruna stated.

He said upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, immediately mobilised a team of officers led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Lawal Isah Mani, to the scene.

The victims were evacuated and rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where they were confirmed dead by medical personnel.

CSP Haruna further disclosed that the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), ACP Wada Jarma, has been directed to lead a comprehensive investigation aimed at identifying and arresting those responsible for the heinous crime.

He assured residents that the command is committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice and restoring calm in the area.

“The Kano State Police Command extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family, the people of Dorayi Charanchi Quarters and the entire Kano State,” the police spokesperson added.
