How 68 passengers escape as Enugu Airlines plane overshoots runway, crash-lands at Benin Airport

No fewer than 68 passengers narrowly escaped death on Thursday after an Enugu Airlines aircraft overshot the runway and crash-landed into a nearby bush while attempting to land at the Benin Airport in Edo State.
The aircraft, with registration number 5N-ENR, was operating a commercial Enugu–Benin–Lagos flight when the incident occurred. The exact cause of the runway excursion was not immediately known.
A source at the Benin Airport, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the aircraft veered off the runway after landing and came to rest in the surrounding bush.
According to the source, officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) responded promptly to the emergency, evacuating all passengers from the aircraft.
"The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria immediately swung into action, and all the passengers were evacuated. No casualty was recorded," the source said.
The source, however, could not confirm the number of crew members on board the aircraft at the time of the incident.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Enugu Airlines nor aviation authorities had issued an official statement on the cause of the accident.
