Okada riders protest in Gboko over alleged killing of four members

Commercial motorcycle riders on Friday shut down activities in Gboko, Benue State, in protest against the alleged killing of four colleagues by armed men who also stole their motorcycles.
The riders mobilised from 6:00am, moving in convoys and lighting bonfires at key points in the town. Many residents stayed away from work and business centres, though the protest remained peaceful.
A protest leader, who declined to be named, said attacks on Okada riders had become frequent, leaving families without breadwinners and riders without their only means of livelihood.
Chairman of Gboko LGA, Hon. Torseer Yina, condemned the killings and said a security meeting had been convened to track down the perpetrators. He pledged support to the riders and promised justice for the victims.
Police spokesperson DSP Udeme Edet confirmed that normalcy had returned and that investigations were ongoing.
