The Executive Chairman of Etche Local Government Council, Hon. Chima Boniface Njoku, has appointed 45 widows from the Obibi community as Special Advisers on Widows’ Matters in a move targeted at grassroots empowerment and inclusion.

The widows, who visited the council secretariat in Okehi on a courtesy call, were identified as members of the Obibi Widows’ Prayer Group. During the visit, they presented their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and passport photographs as part of their documentation.

Announcing the appointments, Hon. Njoku directed that the advisers assume duties immediately, stating that his administration is committed to improving welfare support systems, especially for vulnerable groups.

He noted that widows play vital roles in community cohesion and moral development, adding that the government would continue to create opportunities for their active participation in local governance.

Speaking on behalf of the widows, the group’s leader expressed appreciation to the chairman for what she described as a compassionate gesture. She pledged the group’s continued prayers and unwavering support for the administration.

Observers at the event described the development as historic and reflective of Hon. Njoku’s people-oriented leadership style.

The appointment was formally confirmed in a statement issued by the Assistant Press Secretary, Anyanwu ThankGod, on October 30, 2025.
