Tinubu approves N15bn for new Police academy campus in Ogun

President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new campus of the Nigeria Police Academy in Erinja, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State, alongside a special take-off grant of N15 billion for the project.

The approval aligns with the Nigeria Police Academy (Establishment) Act, 2021, which provides for the expansion of the institution’s main campus in Wudil, Kano State, into multiple campuses nationwide.

Funding for the new campus will be drawn from the 2026 Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TetFund) allocation, covering key infrastructure, academic facilities, student accommodation, and essential training equipment.

According to a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the decision followed a high-level consultative meeting involving the Minister of Police Affairs, the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, officials of the Federal Ministry of Education, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The statement noted that the selection of Erinja was based on considerations such as student intake capacity, funding realities, academic standards, and the growing manpower needs of the Nigeria Police Force.

It added that President Tinubu views the expansion as a strategic move to strengthen institutional governance, enhance modern policing education, and improve national security.
