Former AGF Aondoakaa dumps APC, hints at new political direction

Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Michael Kaase Aondoakaa (SAN), has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing prevailing circumstances and the need to act in the interest of his people and democratic values.

Aondoakaa announced his resignation in a press statement made public on Sunday, stating that the decision took effect from March 28, 2026, after what he described as “careful reflection and wide consultations” with family, political associates, and supporters.

“I wish to formally notify the general public of my resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), effective yesterday, 28th of March, 2026,” he said.

While expressing gratitude to the ruling party, the former minister acknowledged the opportunities he had to contribute to its growth. “I remain grateful for the opportunity to serve and contribute to the growth of the party at various levels during my membership,” he added.

Despite his exit from the APC, Aondoakaa reaffirmed his loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, praising his leadership and commitment to national development.

“I wish to express my profound appreciation to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the visionary leadership he has continued to provide for our nation. I assure him of my continued loyalty to his Renewed Hope Agenda,” he stated.

He also commended the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, for his leadership within the party in Benue State, noting his influence in shaping the state’s political landscape.

Aondoakaa further appreciated party members across Ushongo Local Government Area and Benue State for their support over the years, describing the relationships built as invaluable.

Looking ahead, the former AGF hinted at a new political direction, urging his supporters to remain calm and peaceful.

“At this critical time, I call on all my supporters and associates to remain calm, peaceful, and steadfast. A new direction aimed at salvaging and repositioning Benue State will be communicated in due course,” he said.

His resignation is expected to stir political realignments in Benue State as stakeholders await his next move.
