Benue Law Officers announce two-week warning strike over unpaid salary arrears

The Law Officers Association of Nigeria (LOAN), Benue State Chapter, has announced plans to embark on a two-week warning strike following the failure of the Benue State Government to resolve outstanding issues relating to salary arrears.
The decision was reached at an Emergency General Congress of the association held on Thursday, January 8, 2026, where members unanimously agreed to down tools in protest against what they described as prolonged neglect of their welfare concerns.

In a press briefing, LOAN said the warning strike would commence midnight on Monday, January 12, 2026, and end on Monday, January 26, 2026, if the government continues to ignore its demands.

According to the association, the planned industrial action follows “prolonged negotiations, repeated engagements, and several assurances by the Government regarding the harmonization and payment of outstanding JUSUN salary arrears,” which, it said, have remained unresolved.

“This action is lawful, justified, and unavoidable, taken in defence of the welfare, dignity, and statutory rights of Law Officers in Benue State,” the association stated.

LOAN disclosed that a Monitoring Committee comprising the entire executive of the association alongside other members has been set up to ensure full compliance with the strike directive.

The association also confirmed that relevant notices have been issued to Heads of Courts as well as concerned Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

While expressing readiness for dialogue, the association insisted that it would not compromise on its demands.

“The Association remains open to genuine and constructive dialogue, but remains firm and resolute in its demand for justice, fairness, and respect for the rule of law,” the statement added.

The planned strike, if it goes ahead, is expected to affect legal services and judicial-related activities across the state during the period.
