“George Akume is my only husband” - Regina Akume reaffirms marital commitment at New Year Mass

The wife of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and lawmaker representing Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency, Mrs. Regina Akume, has publicly reaffirmed her love and unwavering commitment to her husband, Senator George Akume, dismissing speculations and public commentary surrounding their family.

Mrs. Akume made the declaration during a New Year Mass to usher in 2026, where she spoke emotionally before congregants, family members and well-wishers, stressing that her marriage and family remain united and intact.

“I want to tell the world that I still love Mr. George (Akume). He is my husband, and that is his son sitting there. That is also his daughter,” she said, mentioning the names of their children to underscore the strength of their family bond.

Visibly resolute, the lawmaker dismissed external opinions and speculation, declaring, “That is my man and that is my husband. I have no other husband but him. I do not care what the world says,” a statement that drew loud applause from the congregation.

Mrs. Akume also used the occasion to reflect on her recent health challenges, recounting how she experienced healing and recovery. She thanked God for restoring her health.

Reaffirming her faith, she said, “He is the Almighty Father; there is none like Him. There is no power above His power, and there is no sacrifice anybody can offer that is greater than the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus on the cross. That is whom I trust.”

She emphasized that no earthly act compares to the redemptive sacrifice of Jesus Christ, reiterating her complete reliance on God’s grace and protection.

Her public remarks come amid heightened public interest in the Akume family within political and social circles, especially after the SGF got married to a new wife , prompting her to address the matter directly during the New Year Mass.
