Man follows wife to delivery room, faints as baby started coming

A man identified as Maicon Pedroso briefly lost consciousness while witnessing the birth of his child at a hospital in Criciúma on April 18.

Pedroso had accompanied his wife, Mariane Felippe, into the delivery room as she underwent a caesarean section.

According to reports, he was holding his wife’s hand when he suddenly fainted at the exact moment their baby was delivered.

Medical personnel on hand responded swiftly, easing him to the floor and attending to him immediately.

Speaking afterwards, Pedroso said he had no recollection of the moment. “I don’t remember anything at all from the moment the baby was born,” he told local media.

The couple had earlier arrived at the hospital after Mariane’s water broke in the early hours of the day, and the procedure was said to have progressed without complications until the unexpected incident.

Birth photographers Patricia Vogel and Viviane Borges, who were present, said the environment had been calm prior to the episode.

“When we arrived, they were a bit anxious, but everything was going as expected,” they said. “Then, at exactly 8:24 a.m., when the baby was born, the father fainted.”

Pedroso later regained consciousness and was able to reunite with his wife and their newborn daughter.

The couple, who already have an older child, reportedly did not experience any similar thing during their previous delivery.

The photographers noted that while such reactions can be startling, they are not entirely uncommon during childbirth.
