Sightsavers donates project vehicle to boost healthcare delivery in Benue

The Benue State Ministry of Health and Human Services has received a project vehicle from international development organisation, Sightsavers, in a move aimed at strengthening the implementation of health programmes across the state.

Presenting the vehicle, Sightsavers’ Programme Officer in Benue State, Mr. Precious John, said the donation was intended to support the Ministry’s ongoing health interventions.

He noted that sustained technical guidance and leadership from the Ministry would be crucial to ensuring effective programme delivery.

Receiving the Toyota Hilux on behalf of the Ministry, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Paul Ejeh Ogwuche, expressed appreciation to Sightsavers, describing the gesture as a timely boost, particularly in the fight against neglected tropical diseases (NTDs).

Dr. Ogwuche said the donation reflects the strong collaboration between the Ministry and its development partners, adding that such partnerships are vital to improving health outcomes in the state.

He also commended the Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, for creating an enabling environment that continues to attract critical partnerships and drive reforms in the health sector.

The Commissioner assured that the vehicle would be put to effective use, especially in enhancing the outreach capacity and operational efficiency of the Department of Public Health.

He further called for sustained collaboration with Sightsavers and other partners to bridge gaps in healthcare delivery and accelerate efforts to eliminate NTDs.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Cephas Hough, also praised Sightsavers for the intervention, assuring that the vehicle would be properly maintained and efficiently deployed.

Other officials present at the event included the Director of Public Health, Dr. Joshua Agbadu; Director of Administration and Supply, Mr. Fidelis Kyange; and Director of Medical Laboratory Services, Mr. Anyebe Boniface, alongside staff of the Ministry and members of the media.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging strategic partnerships to strengthen healthcare services and improve the wellbeing of residents across Benue State.
