Missing six-year-old IDP girl reunited with parents in Makurdi

Relief and joy filled the North Bank area of Makurdi on Tuesday as a six-year-old girl, earlier declared missing during a church service, was reunited with her displaced parents.

The child, daughter of Mr. Shadrack Torhom, an Internally Displaced Person (IDP) from Mbayer/Yandev Council Ward in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, was reported missing on Monday at Agwan JB within Yagba while attending a church service.

According to the family, the disappearance sparked panic among residents and members of the displaced community who immediately began a frantic search for the child.

The girl was later found wandering near the New Bridge area by a Good Samaritan, Mr. Zaki Emmanuel Aginge, who promptly took her to the Police C Division, North Bank.

Police authorities at the division contacted the family shortly after the child was brought to the station, leading to an emotional reunion.

Speaking after the reunion, Mr. Torhom expressed deep gratitude to residents of Agwan JB, Akondotough, Yagba and other concerned individuals who assisted in the search efforts.

He also commended Officer Ajaratu of the C Division, North Bank, whom he had earlier contacted regarding the case, for her swift response and professionalism.

“I appreciate everyone who gave me hope while we were searching for her. I thank those who prayed silently for the safe return of my daughter. May the Almighty God bless you richly,” he said.

The relieved father further acknowledged the encouragement he received from his brother during the tense period, noting that the moral support strengthened him while the search lasted.

The police have not indicated any foul play in the incident, as the child was safely returned without harm.

Residents described the development as a moment of collective relief for the displaced community in North Bank.
