NACOLM honours late officer with posthumous promotion to Major

The Nigerian Army College of Logistics and Management (NACOLM) has conducted a posthumous investiture ceremony in honour of late Captain Godfrey Terkura Ormaga, who was recently promoted to the rank of Major before his death on December 11, 2025, following an illness.

The solemn ceremony, which held on December 22, 2025, at the Commandant’s Conference Room, Headquarters of NACOLM, Ojo, Lagos, was organised to formally recognise the officer’s elevation in rank and his dedicated service to the Nigerian Army.

Speaking at the event, the Commandant of the College, Major General Adewale Collins Adetoba, described the late officer as “a committed and disciplined soldier who served the Nigerian Army and NACOLM meritoriously until his unfortunate demise.”

According to him, the investiture was “a unique and symbolic ceremony organised to honour his promotion even in death, in recognition of his dedication, loyalty and selfless service to the nation.”

Major General Adetoba noted that the College had earlier declared three days of mourning in honour of the deceased officer and assured the family of the Army’s continued support.

He reiterated the Nigerian Army’s commitment to ensuring that all the late officer’s entitlements were promptly paid.

“The Nigerian Army will ensure that all benefits due to the late officer are paid to his family without delay, while his children will also enjoy the educational support and other benefits as provided for under the Armed Forces of Nigeria extant laws,” he said.

A statement by the Public Relations Officer of NACOLM, Major Innocent Oche Audu, said the deceased officer’s wife, Mrs. Scholastica Ormaga, his son, Master Kitzito Ormaga, and his sister, Hembadoon Ormaga, were present at the ceremony.

Also in attendance were Directors, Commanding Officers, Heads of Departments and personnel of the College.

During the event, the Commandant formally presented a condolence letter to the deceased officer’s son, Master Kitzito Ormaga, while sympathising with the family over the painful loss. He had earlier paid a condolence visit to the family at their residence ahead of the investiture.

The statement noted that late Major Ormaga began his military career in 1995 as a member of the 40th Regular Recruit Intake. He later obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and was granted an Executive Commission to the rank of Lieutenant in 2017, after which he was posted to the Nigerian Army Corps of Military Police.

The late officer attended several professional military courses commensurate with his rank, including the Military Police Investigators Course and the Logistics Staff Course. He also participated in various military operations within and outside Nigeria, including Operation HADIN KAI, Operation DELTA SAFE, and peacekeeping missions under the United Nations in Liberia and Darfur.

The ceremony ended with a minute of silence in honour of the deceased senior officer, followed by group photographs with members of his family.
