Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang resigns from PDP amid political realignments

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has officially withdrawn his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the need for focused leadership, clearer direction, and improved service delivery in the state.

In a resignation letter dated December 29, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Ampang West Ward in Mangu Local Government Area, the governor announced his decision to leave the party with immediate effect.

The letter, which was acknowledged by the ward leadership on December 30, expressed Mutfwang’s gratitude to the PDP for providing him the platform to participate in Nigeria’s democratic process and to serve the people of Plateau State.

He also thanked party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters for their sustained backing over the years, describing their support as instrumental to his political journey.

According to the governor, prevailing political circumstances informed his decision, stressing that the move was necessary to enable him to pursue governance with renewed focus and clarity of purpose.

The development has generated significant political interest across Plateau State and beyond, with analysts viewing the decision as a major shift in the state’s political landscape.

Speculation has since intensified over a possible alignment with the All Progressives Congress (APC), although the governor has yet to make any formal declaration regarding his next political move.

Observers believe Mutfwang’s resignation could trigger further political realignments ahead of future electoral contests, as parties position themselves for influence in the state.
