BIPC Orders Asset Audit of Wannune Tomato Factory

The Group Managing Director of Benue Investment and Property Company Limited (BIPC), Dr. Raymond Asemakaha, has ordered an immediate asset optimization audit of the moribund Wannune Tomato Factory in Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State to determine requirements for its rehabilitation.

Dr. Asemakaha issued the directive during an inspection tour of the facility shortly after commissioning the newly established BIPC Bakery in Gboko. He expressed concern over the level of vandalism at the factory and disclosed that Italian technicians would be engaged to carry out a comprehensive assessment of installed equipment.

To prevent further damage, the GMD directed that security personnel be deployed to safeguard the premises.

According to him, the successful revival of the plant would stimulate local economic activities, create jobs, and boost value addition for tomato farmers across the state.

Speaking during the visit, the Commissioner for Commerce, Trade and Investment, Hon. Alumo Orpin, revealed that the state government had issued a deadline to the private partner contracted under the previous administration, which expires at the end of October 2025. He warned that failure to meet agreed terms would result in termination of the partnership.

Hon. Orpin commended the BIPC leadership for its proactive approach and pledged full support toward the restoration of the facility.

Also commenting, the Board Chairman of BIPC, Chief Lady Elizabeth Shuluwa, reaffirmed the board’s commitment to reviving the factory, noting that the plant is essential to ensuring farmers earn fair value and higher profits from their produce.
