Outrage in Gboko as 20-year-old woman dies amid allegations of abuse, illegal abortion

A wave of grief and anger has engulfed Gboko in Benue State following the death of a 20-year-old woman, Rital Ngohide, under circumstances that have sparked widespread calls for justice.

Reports within the community allege that the young woman became pregnant in a situation involving a close family member said to be her uncle.

The incident has drawn heightened concern amid claims that the individual is a religious figure, raising serious moral and legal questions.

It was further alleged that an attempt was made to terminate the pregnancy, after which the young woman reportedly lost her life.

However, authorities had yet to officially confirm the full details surrounding the incident as of the time of filing this report.

The development has triggered condemnation and sorrow among residents, civil society groups, and concerned Nigerians, many of whom are demanding a thorough investigation into the matter.

Community members described the incident as both tragic and unacceptable, stressing the need for accountability. “This is not just a family matter; it is a societal issue,” a resident said. “We must ensure that the truth comes out and that anyone found responsible faces the full weight of the law.”

The case has also renewed attention on the dangers associated with unsafe and illegal abortion practices, as well as broader concerns about abuse, exploitation, and the culture of silence in some communities.
