Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, has passed away after collapsing unexpectedly in his office on Thursday.

Reports had it that the deputy governor slumped during official duties and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa, where he was later confirmed dead.

According to family sources, he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital despite urgent efforts to save his life.

The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m., prompting a swift emergency response from staff and security aides who witnessed the collapse.

Eyewitnesses said Ewhrudjakpo appeared to be in critical condition as he was hurried into the emergency unit.

A source close to the late deputy governor hinted that the collapse might be linked to the heavy pressures of his office, though no official cause of death has been announced.

Multiple sources, however, suggested that the tragedy may have resulted from a cardiac-related complication.

In the aftermath of his death, security operatives took control of the hospital premises, restricting access as top government officials trooped in to express shock and concern.

Efforts to reach his media aide, Mr. Doubara Atasi, were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
