PFIPC probe: Why Gbajabiamila honoured our invitation - ICPC

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on Tuesday confirmed that the Chief of Staff to the President, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, honoured its invitation as part of an ongoing investigation into the activities of the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC).

The Commission said Gbajabiamila visited its headquarters in Abuja on Monday, July 20, 2026, where he gave a statement to investigators probing the circumstances surrounding the controversial body.

According to a statement by the ICPC's Head of Media and Public Communications, Okor Odey, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had directed the anti-corruption agency to investigate how the PFIPC, which the Presidency has described as a fraudulent entity, operated from the Federal Secretariat in Abuja for about two years.

The Commission said the investigation centres on one Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, who allegedly presented himself as the Director-General of the Council despite the Presidency disowning the organisation.

The statement explained that Gbajabiamila arrived at the Commission's office in the afternoon, responded to questions from investigators and left after the session.

ICPC stressed that the Chief of Staff was not arrested, noting that he voluntarily honoured the invitation in line with the Commission's fact-finding exercise.

"The Chief of Staff's visit was on the invitation of investigators and is consistent with the Commission's ongoing efforts to establish all relevant facts in the matter. He was not arrested; he willingly honoured the invitation," the statement said.

The anti-graft agency added that investigations are still ongoing and assured that further updates would be provided as developments unfold.
