The African Action Congress, AAC, has inaugurated its Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general election, unveiling plans for nationwide mobilisation in support of its presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, and his running mate, Haruna Magashi.

The party announced the inauguration in a statement issued on Friday and signed by its Acting National Chairman, Samuel Ajeigbe, and National Secretary, Oshiokhue Phillip Ikpeminoghena.

The party described the inauguration as “a major step forward” in its preparations to mobilise Nigerians ahead of the presidential election.

According to the statement, the council will coordinate campaign activities across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, bringing together political strategists, grassroots organisers, policy advocates, media professionals, digital campaigners, election specialists, legal practitioners and finance personnel.

Abdullahi Usman will serve as Director-General of the council, supported by deputies overseeing Strategy and Political Affairs, and Diaspora and Resource Mobilisation. Juwon Sanyaolu was named Campaign Council Secretary.

The AAC also established 10 national directorates to oversee key areas of the campaign, including strategy and policy, grassroots mobilisation, labour and civil society engagement, publicity and communications, digital media, data and technology, election operations, finance, legal and compliance, and administration and field operations.

The party said its campaign structure would extend to the grassroots through state, local government, ward and polling-unit coordinators, supported by volunteers, canvassers, polling agents and other supporters.

It noted that its mobilisation efforts had been strengthened by the SOWORENOW application, which it described as a key digital platform for organising supporters and coordinating campaign activities.

“The Presidential Campaign Council is not a replacement for this digital mobilisation infrastructure; rather, it is designed to upscale, deepen and expand it,” the statement said.

The party explained that the council would integrate digital technology with physical grassroots organisation to expand the campaign's reach and strengthen its presence in communities across the country.

“The Council will combine the power of technology with physical grassroots organisation, political coordination and community-level mobilisation to ensure that the Sowore–Magashi campaign reaches Nigerians in every part of the country,” it added.

The AAC said it intended to take its campaign message beyond major cities and state capitals to rural communities and individual polling units as part of efforts to build nationwide support ahead of the election.

It maintained that the 2027 presidential election should go beyond a change of leadership at the Presidential Villa, arguing that it presented an opportunity to redirect the country's political course.

“The 2027 election is not merely about changing the occupant of Aso Rock; it is about changing the political direction of Nigeria,” the statement said.

The party further criticised the existing political order, arguing that it had failed Nigerians, and pledged to take its message directly to voters across urban and rural communities.

It described the inauguration as the beginning of an intensified nationwide mobilisation and called on Nigerians seeking an alternative political direction to join its campaign.

“We call on Nigerians who believe that Nigeria can and must be different to join us,” the statement said.

“The task of taking back our country cannot be left to politicians alone; it requires the active participation of the People,” it added.
