FG approves N48bn for Engineering upgrades in 12 universities

The Federal Government has approved N48 billion for the upgrade of engineering facilities in 12 selected universities across the country.

Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, announced the intervention during the inauguration of the Implementation Committee on Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Special High-Impact Intervention Projects in Abuja.

Under the arrangement, each of the beneficiary institutions will receive N4 billion to either upgrade existing engineering facilities or construct new workshops where necessary.

The universities selected for the intervention include the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State; Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State; Federal University of Technology, Babura, Jigawa State; Federal University of Technology, Ikot-Abasi, Akwa Ibom State; and the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Imo State.

Others are the Nigerian Army University, Biu, Borno State; African Aviation and Aerospace University, Abuja; Shehu Shagari University of Education, Sokoto State; Enugu State University of Medical and Applied Sciences; University of Ilesa, Osun State; Delta State University; and Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi State.

Alausa explained that the intervention is aimed at strengthening practical training and improving the quality of engineering education in the country.

He further disclosed that an additional N20 billion has been captured in the 2026 TETFund guidelines to support the upgrade of engineering facilities in other selected universities nationwide.
