All 13 remaining passengers, including candidates of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), who were abducted last Wednesday from an 18-seater Benue Links bus along the Makurdi–Otukpo road have been released.

Sources said most of the rescued victims were JAMB candidates travelling to Otukpo to sit for their examinations when the bus was attacked by armed men.

While authorities are yet to disclose details of the operation that led to their freedom, it was gathered that the victims were released in the early hours of Sunday after spending about three days in captivity.

Security operatives had reportedly intensified efforts in the area in the days preceding their release.

The freed passengers were immediately taken for medical attention and are currently receiving treatment at the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Otukpo.
