PDP Caretaker committee insists convention will hold, warns against court disruptions

The National Caretaker Working Committee (NCWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its legitimacy as the party’s leadership, insisting that its forthcoming National Convention will proceed as scheduled despite alleged attempts to halt the process through the courts.

Addressing journalists on Sunday, the PDP said court rulings had clearly established the authority of the caretaker committee to manage the affairs of the party.

“The judgments of the Federal High Courts and Court of Appeal have affirmed the legitimacy and authority of the National Caretaker Working Committee as the body duly recognized to steer the affairs of the party at this time,” the committee stated.

It stressed that the rulings remain binding and urged party members and the public to disregard any contrary claims.

The committee, however, expressed concern over what it described as moves by a faction within the party to destabilize its activities, alleging that a group led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN) is seeking a court injunction in Ibadan to stop the planned convention.

“We are aware of moves by this group, to secure an injunction to halt the forthcoming National Convention. This is particularly unfortunate,” the statement read.

According to the NCWC, several reconciliation efforts were made to resolve internal disagreements, but the faction allegedly failed to engage.

“Regrettably, these overtures were ignored, as the said faction failed to present itself for meaningful engagement,” it added.

The party emphasized its commitment to unity, internal democracy, and the rule of law, while cautioning against actions capable of undermining its stability.

It also called on judicial authorities to take note of what it described as attempts to abuse court processes to frustrate the party’s activities.

“We respectfully call on the Honourable Chief Judge of the Federal High Court and the State High Court to take judicial notice of these attempts to abuse court processes,” the committee said.

Reaffirming confidence in the judiciary, the PDP maintained that justice would prevail.
The NCWC further assured members nationwide that preparations for the convention, slated for March 29 and 30, 2026, have been completed.

“All necessary arrangements have been concluded, and the party is fully prepared to deliver a successful, transparent, and credible convention,” it stated.

The party urged members to remain calm and law-abiding, insisting that it remains “united, strong, and determined.”
