Police arrest herder for allegedly stabbing brother to death in Delta community

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a herder accused of stabbing his younger brother to death in Ogwashi-Uku community, Aniocha South Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Sunday, revealing that the victim was attacked while asleep. He added that the suspect is believed to be a drug addict.

According to Edafe, the incident was reported to the Ogwashi-Uku Police Division on January 8, 2025, at about 7:31 a.m. The report stated that at approximately 3:20 a.m. the same day, a 20-year-old man, identified as Umaru Haman, was allegedly stabbed to death at Poly Road near Adaigbo Filling Station.

He said the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Israel Okoyomon, immediately deployed detectives to the scene. Preliminary investigations showed that the deceased was allegedly stabbed by his brother, Aliyu Haman, also aged 20 and a herder.

“The suspect was promptly arrested, and the weapon used in committing the crime was recovered,” Edafe stated.

He added that the victim’s body was evacuated and deposited at Odua Mortuary, Ogwashi-Uku, for autopsy, while the suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
