Alleged drug-fueled attack: Son sets father Ablaze in Delta community

Tragedy struck Oghior Community in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State following the alleged killing of an elderly man, Pa Chicago Okutu, by his son, identified as Saturday Okutu.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred after the suspect, reportedly under the influence of a hard drug known locally as “Colorado,” became violent during a confrontation with his father.
The situation was said to have escalated into a physical assault within the family home.
Community sources disclosed that the suspect allegedly set the house on fire during the altercation, resulting in the death of the aged man. The incident left residents of Oghior Community in shock and mourning.
The development has also reignited concerns over the growing abuse of hard drugs among youths in local communities and the dangers it poses to families and society at large.
Reacting to the incident, the immediate past President-General of Oghior Community, Moses Uchere strongly condemned the act and called for urgent and coordinated action to address drug abuse.
He stressed the need for increased public awareness and community engagement to prevent further loss of lives.
It was gathered that community authorities have commenced preliminary investigations into the incident as efforts continue to uncover more details surrounding the tragic event.
When contacted, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said he would revert with an official response. However, as of press time, no further information had been provided by the police.
