Zulum condemns Maiduguri explosions, urges vigilance during Ramadan

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, has strongly condemned the explosions that occurred in parts of Maiduguri metropolis on Monday evening, describing the attack as cruel and cowardly.

Governor Zulum, who is currently in Saudi Arabia performing the Lesser Hajj, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, noting that the explosions targeted innocent residents during the holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, the governor described the act as barbaric and called for heightened vigilance among residents, particularly in places of worship and other public gatherings.

“I am deeply saddened by the explosions that occurred in parts of the metropolis on Monday evening. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims and those injured as a result of the blast. The act is utterly condemnable, barbaric, and inhumane,” Zulum said.

The governor noted that the recent spike in attacks could be linked to intensified military operations against insurgents in the Sambisa Forest and other hideouts.

He assured residents that the military and other security agencies were on top of the situation, adding that adequate measures had been put in place to prevent further security breaches in Maiduguri and across the state.

Zulum also urged residents to remain calm and continue with their normal activities while promptly reporting any suspicious movements or activities to security agencies.
