2027: ADC accuses INEC of bias, rejects court ruling interpretation, reviews next steps

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of compromising its neutrality, alleging that the electoral body is acting under pressure from the federal government.

The party rejected INEC’s interpretation of a recent Court of Appeal ruling, describing it as flawed and inconsistent with both facts and logic.

ADC further claimed that the electoral umpire’s position reflects the influence of a government unsettled by the party’s increasing political traction.

The controversy follows INEC’s decision to remove the names of the party’s National Chairman, Senator David Mark, and National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, from its official portal.

In a late-night statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party expressed concern over what it described as a troubling development for Nigeria’s democracy and the future of opposition politics.

“We reject INEC’s interpretation of the Court of Appeal ruling. It is clear to us that the commission is acting under pressure from a government that has become jittery over ADC’s growing momentum despite its sustained actions against opposition parties,” Abdullahi stated.

He further noted that INEC’s explanation was riddled with contradictions, adding that the party would soon address the inconsistencies publicly.

The ADC also disclosed that it is currently reviewing the situation and will announce its next line of action in due course.

While urging its members and supporters to remain calm and resolute, the party expressed optimism about its political prospects.

“Nigeria is rising. ADC is rising,” the statement added.
